Dublin Senior Footballers won team of the year at the RTE Sports Personality of the year awards. Dublin won their 5th All Ireland in a row and recently Dublin Manager Jim Gavin stepped down and replaced by Dessie Farrel who is also a former player for Dublin and managed Dublin teams at underage level. He comes into the job with a wealth of experience. Hopefully, Stephen Cluxton will stay on.

Congratulations to Elphin CC, Roscommon who won the Senior Boys A shield competition today in UL Sports Arena. Based of their Senior A league positions, teams from up and down the length of the country played both semi-finals and final. St Louis CS, Mayo, Dungarvan College, Waterford, and Davis College, Cork.
Both semis were extremely tight with Elphin overcoming Davis college 2-1 and Dungarvan this year’s runners up defeating St Louis by a similar scoreline. The Roscommon team emerged 2019 Shield winners though against a strong Dungarvan side taking the winning set 25-23. MVP Colin Burke (Elphin)
Creggs RFC have been doing really well in the last couple of seasons but they suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down to a very good Connemara RFC side https://connachttribune.ie/connemara-carry-too-much-class-for-roscommon-rivals/

Manor United had a great 4v2 win over Skyvally Rovers in Strokestown on Sunday afternoon. Despite going 1v0 down early, the lads kept the head and kept pressing and they got their reward from a great Cross from top goalscorer Tom Ward who is the Teams Top Goalscorer, but also the Top Scorer in Division 2. His brilliant cross was met by a great header to equalise. But we pressed more and more and it paid off in the second half when we got a free-kick. Dylan Carbon took the free-kick and I tell you this much, David Beckham would have been proud of it. With us 3v1 up, Skyvalley B had to do something so they had to press high and play attacking football which leads to loads of chances for us and our efforts were rewarded when Skyvalley conceded a penalty which Tom Ward scored emphatically. But the scoring wasn’t done yet as manor rounding off their scoring with a 4th and before the end, Skyvalley got a consolation goal. That leaves Manor United 2nd in the league going into the Christmas break with 5 league games left in the season. Our first game in the new year is v Galway side Mervue B in the Connacht Shield at home. I started back with Manor for the Skyvalley B game and it was great to be back.
MANAGERS MATCH REPORT
December 15
Manor utd 4 Skyvally Rovers 2
Skyvally went 1 up after 10min after a mistake from our defence. In 30 min manor scored when Tom ward crossed from the left to Louis Galvin who brilliantly headed to the corner of the net. Dylan Carbin scored a brilliant 25yd free-kick to make it 2-1 in 60min, manor took over at this stage and tom ward scored a penalty in 65min to make 3-1. It was all one-way traffic at this stage with Skyvally keeper was the busy player on the field. Tom ward got the forth from a sola run from the right-hand side.in the last-minute manor, defender missed the place a back pass and put it in his own net. We have 22 points out of 11 games now which makes us 2nd in our league with 5 games left.
Squad, James Beatty, Bernie stokes, Patrick stokes, Dylan Carbin Mom), Michael Kelly, Kevin Concannon, Ciaran Casey, Patrick O’ Connor, Jamie Burke, Louis Galvin, Tom ward, Micheal ward, Paddy McCormick, Richard Farrell, Martin ward. Also on 27th December in Early’s Pub in Ballinaheglish, the club will be holding its Awards Presentation night. Promises to be a good night. Yours truly got an invite and I am looking forward to it.

COACHES VIEW
Athlone Town FC has appointed Adrian Carberry as the 1st team Manager. Adrian was the Roscommon & District League Coaching & Education Officer then he got involved with Athlone Town on the coaching side of things at underage level. Adrian is a man I know personally and is very helpful and has done great work in coaching around Roscommon and was involved in many great initiatives including at Ballaghadereen FC where he helped with an all Inclusive programme for Syrian refugees to help them integrate into the community in Ballaghadereen. They learned English and Adrian coached them. Some of them are now playing for the club. I want to wish Adrian Carberry all the best in his new role

Arsenal FC has appointed Former Player Mikel Arteta as their new first-team coach. Taking into account that he was only Assistant Manager at Manchester City, he has had no first-team managerial experience and to appoint him as 1st Team Manager of the sinking ship that is Arsenal who couldn’t by a win, is he a good choice.

Everton FC has appointed Carlo Ancellotti as the First Team Manager. At the moment you would have to say, between Arsenal and Everton, I would say Everton are by far the better team but you would think that too look at the table and looking at their form. Can Ancellotti turn the tide? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50846235 CREDIT BBC Sport
Manor United FC Management Team of Padraig Cryan, George Kelly and Chris Ward masterminded yet another win to guide Manor United to yet another within the Roscommon & District Football League. The team have been playing really well since the start of the season and with that win over Skyvalley Rovers B in mind, it means that we go into the Christmas Break in 2nd place with 5 League games remaining. Manor United had a great side up until 2012 when they had to fold due to lack of players. However, last season they reformed with the Padraig Cryan, George Kelly and Chris ward as the management team. The 1st season back is always difficult but they hadn’t a bad season considering it was the first season. This season the players and management dug deep and got back on the training field for pre-season and preparations went well and this season so far turned in great performances. The squad was basically the same as last season including Tom Ward and Dylan Carbin but new players coming into the squad including goalkeeper James Beatty after the departure of last seasons’ goalkeeper Mark due to retirement.
New Ireland Rugby Head Coach Andy Farrell has picked his squad that took part in this weeks training camp which is the first Training Camp under Andy Farrell. He Called it a Stock Take. He has dropped some regulars from the squad for this one but he also drafted in some new uncapped players so as to get a closer look at them. This will prove a very useful exercise for him ahead of the 2020 6 Nations. A lot of eyes with be on the Ireland squad during the 6 Nations as this year under Joe Schmidt, considering the quality in the squad a lot of experts have said that they underachieved in both the 6 Nations and the world cup and considering that Andy Farrell was Joe Schmidts Assistant Head Coach, people will look forward to seeing if there were lessons learned from this season and now with Rory best having retired who was a great leader it will be very interesting. That said regarding coaching, Andy Knows these players already which is good to a certain extent for both the players and Andy. How will Ireland get on in 2020? Let’s hope 2020 is a great year for the Ireland Rugby Team
ABOUT THE PLAYER
Manor Utd on Sunday I had my first game as a team sports therapist with Manor United at home to Skyvalley Rovers FC B. we had a good 4v2 win but unfortunately one of their players sustained a Hip Flexor injury. For more information read the Blog on Hip flexor Injuries. Tom Ward had a great game as he set up the equaliser before scoring from the penalty spot later in the game all during the game he made some great runs. Dylan Carbin had a man of the match display started at midfield before being switched to midfield he also scored an amazing free Kick to see the free go.
Liverpool FC 3rd choice Goalkeeper and Rep of Ireland U21 Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher who has a Champions League medal from last season and already made 1 appearance in goal for Liverpool played in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup Quarterfinal V Aston Villa in Villa Park on Tuesday night where they Lost 5v0 but the academy side performed really well despite the scoreline. Caoimhin had to get a flight to Doha to join the 1st team squad for their World Club Cup Semi-Final v Mexican side Monterrey which they beat to reach the final where they play Brazillian side Flamengo on Saturday in the final. Van Dijk missed the semi-final due to illness but trained with the club ahead of the final.
Ireland Rugby Team had their first training camp under the new manager this weekend minus the presence of Leinsters Rob Kearney and Connacht’s Jack Carty. That said there are several uncapped players who made the squad for the training camp

FAI They are in trouble and asked Shane Ross for a bailout. €50million in debt and lost their Main sponsor in 3 mobile how do they get out of this one? Considering we have a playoff semi-final in March and if we qualify for the Euros, we do not want to be going into either under this cloud. Shane Ross has refused to give a bailout. But he has contacted UEFA for a meeting to see if there was a way of resolving the matter. There was a suggestion of splitting to FAI into 2 parts, one part looks after the grassroots football in Ireland, the other looks after the elite players and teams. If it was implemented would it work? WATCH THIS SPACE
